Naked mole-rat(Heterocephalus glaber) is a burrowing rodent native to parts of East Africa. It is closely related to the blesmols and is the only species in the genus Heterocephalus. Naked mole-rats practice coprophagy, the reingestion of feces, which helps them maximize their nutrient uptake.



Their scientific name is Heterocephalus glaber. The name naked mole-rat for it's pink and almost hairless skin. Naked mole-rat is also known as 'Sand puppy'.
